| Mega Bloks are NOT Legos! | 2009-01-06 | 2 / 5 |
| We have not purchased mega bloks brand toys before that were this similar to Lego brand, however, the only similarity between the 2 is the size of the building blocks! The mega bloks do not snap together or stay together like Lego's at all.
Thankfully I only paid $24 for this castle! I admittedly missed the age suggestion for this toy and purchased it for my 5 year old son for Christmas. It was probably appropriate for the age range the box gave (9-13). However, my husband and I both grew frustrated with how easily the pieces came apart while we were constructing the castle. One little touch made the thing fall down! We solved that problem with some super glue and my kids have all had fun playing with it.
This castle does have some cool features to it, but like I said earlier, I'm glad I only paid $24. Durability is not a description I would give this toy. I honestly don't expect it to last very long. I would have been sorely disappointed had I paid full price. |
| Exploding blocks | 2009-01-05 | 1 / 5 |
| | Ditto, ditto, ditto.....to all those who have remarked on the inabilility to keep these blocks from exploding (springing apart) with even the slightest touch. If you purchase this, do yourself a favor and buy a bottle of Krazy glue with the brush like a bottle of whiteout at the same time. That is what I finally had to do after reassembling this monster 3 times. I cussed like a drunken sailor at this thing. Had I paid full price for it, I would have been sick. From now on, it is LEGO's all the way for me. They may be more expensive, but I don't have to buy stock in Krazy glue when I put Lego's together. |
| Good for < $30 | 2009-01-04 | 5 / 5 |
| This is definitely tricky to put together in places, but I didn't find it as frustrating as some of the other reviewers here. It's a joint adult-child task; if I'd left my 7-year-old alone to put it together, he'd have been frustrated; but doing it together he had a lot of fun and now he's figured things out enough that when a bit falls off (bits definitely fall off pretty regularly!), he knows how to put them back on.
The key issue is probably price. I paid about $[...] for it and I'm very happy -- it was one of the best things my son got this Christmas. If I'd paid the supposed full price (70-80) then I'd be less happy with the purchase. Either way, it's provided hours of fun both constructing and playing. |
| Does not stay together! | 2009-01-03 | 3 / 5 |
| | We bought this castle for my son for Christmas. My husband spent the whole Christmas Day putting it together. Some pieces would pop off every time you would try to put on another piece. We were also missing pieces. My son loves playing with it but falls apart with the slightest touch. We are now super glueing on the pieces as they pop off. Not a toy to buy if you want to play with it. |
| great idea, but cheaply made | 2009-01-02 | 2 / 5 |
| | The Castle has many cool features, looks good and is fun for my 6 year old, but wow, is it poorly manufactured! The Lego-style blocks don't fit together well, they look like they were made in someone's kitchen; oddly shaped, and not uniform enough to even fit together most of the time. They feel like they are made of cheap rubbery plastic, which I'm sure we will hear about in the future for having lead in them or something! On the positive side, the directions are easy to follow for assembly, and there are some thoughtful designs built into the set for some good fun. But again, the con is the quality of the pieces, and even the action figures fall apart without hardly having to touch them! |
