I gave this toy to my nephew for Christmas after reading overall good reviews, and to my surprise, it surpassed my and my sister's expectations. My nephew used to need a lot of attention from an adult to keep him entertained, and he would tire of toys or games quickly. But he spent days playing for an hour or two at a time with this set on his own, with minimal adult supervision. My sister thought it was great and bought sets for my nephew's friends' birthdays. Refills are expensive from sellers, but I was able to find them at reasonable prices from Michael's and use their coupons. I am sure that eventually my nephew grew out of it, but my sister got our money's worth from this toy.
Not a lot of educational value, I thought, but anything that can keep a highly active kid entertained indoors for an hour is worth a try. And it is not like being glued to a tv or video game indoors. It does allow the kid to play with his imagination in experimenting with different color mixes, control how much goo to pour of each color for the desired effect, and learn the patience required to wait for the goo to dry into a shape that can be lifted out of the mold. |

| My son has played with this toy a lot. When friends come over, they always want to play with it. I'm not saying he plays with it all the time, but it is one of the favorites that has been around for a while that he will still pull out from time to time. |

| The toy is desirable and quite fun to begin with. My kids, 7 and 10, played every evening for three-four days and laughed a lot making funny Martians. Then the set stayed on the table for another two weeks but they did not touch it anymore. The novelty and the materials were gone. It is a consumable toy literally and figuratively speaking, so if you consider that $20 bucks are worth the short fun, give in and buy it. |

| Martian Matter is reminiscent of those rubbery bugs you could mold way back when. Now there is no heat. Use the mud to make a mold cavity from the plastic positive molds. Then pour in the lava goo. Let sit 5 minutes, and you have alien bugs. There is enough lava goo to make about 100 aliens and plenty of molds to mix and match to make many variations. |
