- The grab it, guess it, pass it game makes you think quick, talk fast, and keep it moving!
- 2 Teams alternate turns guessing the answers to clues in 11 categories
- Unit's clock counts down and buzzes when time is out
- More than 10,000 words built-in
- For 4 or more players
For 4 or more players in teams, Electronic Catch Phrase is the game of 10,000 words and a million laughs. The self-contained electronic unit has words, categories and a timer and scorekeeper. Perfect for taking on vacation. Requires 3 "AAA" alkaline batteries (not included).
Ever play "Hot Potato" with a spud that ticks and talks? Welcome to Electronic Catch Phrase, the battery-powered (three AAA, not included) blend of clue deduction and race against the clock. Two teams of two or more players each alternate turns, guessing the answers to clues in 11 categories, from Food & Drink to Tech & Inventions. Set the timer on the discus-like game unit, and the clue-giving countdown begins; if a team's guess matches the response on the game's readout, pass the unit to the opponents. Just don't get caught holding this potato when the buzzer sounds (after about a minute of increasingly insistent beating), as the other team will score a point, possession being nine- tenths of the "Awww!" With its infectious mix of fast, nerve-wracking, high- pressure passing the buck, Electronic Catch Phrase spreads a serious case of fun. --Tony Mason

| Catch Phrase is easily my favorite party game (and we play a lot of games!). We have been playing this since the analog days and it never gets old; I have never heard anyone say "I don't want to play it AGAIN!"
If you like word games like Taboo, Outburst, or Password odds are you will enjoy Catch Phrase. It is fast paced, simple, low maintenance, can be played with large or small groups of people, and has a beeping timer (who doesn't love that?)
To be fair, there are drawbacks. This kind of game is not for people who fast-paced and stressful games (chessplayers and scrabblers need not apply-ok that's probably not fair). It is also not the greatest game for kids. Other drawbacks are you have to have an even number of players, if you play it enough you get familiar with some of the words (although it has taken us 3 years of frequent play to get to this point).
Fast paced and fun (teenage-adult) game! |

| I bought this game when looking for a new game to bring with me in my first year of college. The first time I played it, I knew it was going to be a favorite. You split into 2 teams and while you're holding the buzzer, you have to try to get your teammates to guess the word by acting out, humming, describing, anything but saying the actual word.
The real fun starts when the buzzer stats winding down, and you end up screaming answers and throwing the buzzer at the next player so you don't get stuck with it.
This game tends to get better with the more people you play it with. I've played it with 4 people, which is fun and a little more low key, and I've played it with 10 people, which is more competitive and can get really loud (in a good way).
Not only do my college friends love this game, so does my family. I've played it with my 76-year-old grandma, my 50-some-year old mom and aunt, my 17-year old cousin...all of whom love this game. My dad, who refuses to play any type of game, was even chiming in on some answers (although he claimed he wasn't playing).
This game is a must have. The only downfall is that after playing many games, the owner of the game starts to remember words. However, after owning the game for a year and half, there are still words that come up that I have not heard yet. |
| AWESOME, but get the original electronic version | 2008-09-25 | 5 / 5 |
| GOOD: This is the best, most portable, easy to learn party game you will ever play. Just sit in a circle, every other person on one team, pick a category and get your teammates to say the word that comes on the screen. When they do, you just pass it on. Hurry, because if your team hasn't gotten your word when the buzzer goes off, the other team gets a point. The compact little game disc keeps score for you and the first team to get seven points wins!
BAD: I have had the original electronic version of this game (bright blue and silver) for several years and played it A LOT, and I have only had MAYBE 5-10 repeated words ever. I bought a few of the second edition games (blue and white) as prizes for my students, and when we played them, we got SEVERAL repeats within a couple hours of playing. Therefore, if you can find it, I highly recommend the original version over the newer one. Otherwise, I'm not sure it's worth your money. |

| | I was introduced to this product at a game night and was so intrigued by it, I bought it. I used this with my 7 year old on a car trip and it kept him interested for over an hour. We like it so much that we incorporated it into our family night game. My 55 year old mother also enjoyed playing with us. Great game. |

| | My family has the version 1 catchphrase and I honestly think we have memorized most of the answers. It would have been nice to have a way to just update the questions but this is the next best thing. All new questions and loads of fun. Playing with teenagers is a absolute riot, they have no idea about some of this stuff and you should see the hints. Hope you enjoy this game as much as we have. |
